Georgios Trakakis

Dr. Georgios Trakakis is a Post-Doctoral Researcher at FORTH/ICE-HT and a member of the Composites & Nanostructured Materials Laboratory, CNM, since 2006. He received his BSc from the Department of Materials Science of the University of Patras in 2007 and his MSc and PhD from Interdepartmental Program “Polymer Science and Technology”, University of Patras, Greece, in 2010 and 2014, respectively. His PhD thesis was about “Fabrication and characterization of polymer nanocomposites”. He has considerable expertise in nanocomposites and graphitic nanomaterials, having been involved in various research projects. During 2013-2014 he visited Freie Universität, for IKYDA program.

Research interests:

Production and characterization of:

  • polymer composites and nanocomposites, focusing on carbon nanotubes, graphene and other nanomaterials as fillers
  • graphene and other nanomaterials by chemical vapor deposition or other physicochemical routes
  • smart and multifunctional composite materials
  • nanomembranes for water and air filtration

Current research programs:

  • CAERUS (Carbon nanofilters of enhanced rigidity for unpolluted air and gas sensing)
  • ITS-THIN (Water separation revolutionized by ultrathin carbon nanomembranes)
